CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDES | MEMOIR #2

It’s that time of the year! The nights are darker, the Christmas coffeeshop cups are out, the John Lewis advert is out… of course, Christmas. Started your Christmas shopping? Finished it? Or haven’t even started? Don’t worry,  I’ve decided to do Christmas gift guides to give you inspiration for a Christmas present for your loved ones.

Yesterday was the first four picks of memoir in the Christmas gift guides and there were a great mix of people with different stories to tell. I hope there was some inspiration there for you within them. Today, it’s time for four more picks of memoir. Like fiction, I think memoir is a big genre at Christmas. They always seem to be the biggest-selling books during the festive period, and really, there are a lot of great memoirs out there at the moment. Today, we have:

1fiction1.005

  1. Tina Turner: My Love Story: In her memoir, the sensational Tina Turner reveals all about her life, her career, and her loves. This autobiography is also released to celebrate her 60th year in the music industry. And finally, she is ready to reveal and share everything that has happened before, during, and after those 60 years. Just like her classics, I think this will be a wonderful, eye-opening, heartbreaking, but hopeful read. Really think this is going to be a big memoir this Christmas.
  2. Busy Philipps: This Will Only Hurt A Little: Okay, let me be honest with you. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with Busy Philipps. I’ve recently followed her Instagram and she is hilarious and immediately want to be her best friend. I’ve never known of her before but Busy Philipps is an actress and recently started her late-night chat show, Busy Tonight which is also hilarious. So, I’m really excited to read this book myself. Just like her Instagram, I think this book will be a hoot.
  3. Dolly Alderton: Everything I Know About Love: Words can’t express how much I love this book. I’ve devoured it, cried over it, laughed over it, everything. It’s that sort of book. It’s been in the Sunday Times bestseller list for weeks and weeks and recently announced as part of the shortlist in Waterstones’ Book of the Year. In Everything I Know About Love, Dolly explores the theme of love in all of it’s forms. From bad dates, drunken parties, more bad dates, and everything in between. But at the end of it, it’s friendship that trumps everything. It’s also about knowing who you are and your worth. I can’t express how much I love this book and I can’t wait to read it (again, again, and again) when the paperback comes out. A must-have memoir for everyone this Christmas. If you want to read more about how much I loved this book, you can read my review here.
  4. Gary Barlow: A Better Me: Another singer with another memoir now with Gary Barlow and his book, A Better Me. We all know Gary Barlow don’t we? From Take That, X Factor, etc. But do we really know Gary Barlow? Do we? In this book, Gary is open and honest about the time he hit rock bottom. Battling with depression, weight issues, the prying of the media, and more. This is not just a memoir about his life, but how he has faced his problems, personal tragedy and more. He was recently a guest on Fearne Cotton’s brilliant podcast Happy Place where he talked more about the book, especially his problem with his weight and food. I found it really interesting and I’m sure the book is just, or more, interesting. A must-have for any Gary Barlow fans in your life.

And that wraps up the whole picks of memoir! I really love a good memoir at Christmas and I think they make the perfect present for your loved ones. Know a massive Tina Turner fan? Sorted. Or a massive Gary Barlow fan? Another present sorted. I hope there was something in there for everyone. I’m really excited for some of these memoirs too, and will be on my own Christmas list this year, too. If you found something for your loved one this Christmas, do let me know! I’d love to hear from you. Tomorrow, it’s another genre, and I think, one of my favourites… food. Yep! See you tomorrow at 6pm for more!

If you haven’t already, you can sign up to my newsletter here. The first one will be going out next month and I can’t wait!

Thank you,

Corey.
