CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDES | FOOD #1

It’s that time of the year! The nights are darker, the Christmas coffeeshop cups are out, the John Lewis advert is out… of course, Christmas. Started your Christmas shopping? Finished it? Or haven’t even started? Don’t worry,  I’ve decided to do Christmas gift guides to give you inspiration for a Christmas present for your loved ones.

It’s another gift guide today and it’s all about food! Yep, it’s all about cookery books for the next two days. For me, I think a cookery book is a perfect Christmas present. I’ve tried to have a variety in these cook books, too. From quick and easy cooking, vegetarian, taking things slow in the kitchen, a whole lot of carbs and a lot more. Like always, I hope there’s something there for everyone and give you some inspiration for a Christmas present for your loved ones (or yourself) this year. So, today, to kick off food, we have:

  1. Laura Goodman: Carbs: I think this screams the perfect Christmas present. This book celebrates the big C word: carbs! I’m in love with this book and it’s already on the top of my own Christmas list. From what I’ve seen from this book, it’s bold, colourful and a whole lot of fun. Carbs have been somewhat forbidden in society, but not in this book. Laura has created recipes with the mighty potato, pizzas, rice bowls, muffins, and a whole lot more. As Laura says, it’s time to put the carbs back on the table. I wholeheartedly agree.
  2. Gizzi Erksine: Slow: Another book that I’m so excited for at the moment. Gizzi is no stranger in the food world and in this new book, she takes things down a notch, and  a whole lot slower. In a world where everything and everyone is hectic and frantic, it’s time to take things a lot slower in the kitchen with food worth taking time over. I love this whole book. For me, there is nothing better and more enjoyable than spending time in the kitchen after a hectic day. Pop the radio on and create something hearty and tasty. I think this is another perfect Christmas present for the home-cook and look at that gorgeous cover! This is is definitely on my list and can’t wait to start cooking from it. Slowly, of course…
  3. Yotam Ottolenghi: Simple: I’m sure everyone knows Ottolenghi and his books and cooking. Earlier in the year, he released his new cookbook, Simple. Ottolenghi is someone that I’m not that familiar with but I know he’s known for grandeur and luxurious food but in this book, he’s taking things with a more simpler form. I’m slightly obsessed with that cover too! I’ve seen some sample images on Amazon and his Instagram and I’m already itching to cook the slow cooked chicken with a crisp corn crust (YUM!) and also the pappardelle with rose harissa, black olives and capers. Yes, please. Also, in Waterstones, you can buy a special edition with yellow sprayed edges to make it that extra special as a Christmas present for your loved ones.
  4. Felicity Cloake: Completely Perfect: Like the rest of the books, this is one that is on the top part of my own Christmas list. I always love reading Felicity’s column in the Guardian’s Feast magazine on a Saturday and in this book, she has collected all of those columns to help us be a better home cook. This book is packed with 120 essential recipes and heaps of cooking advice. From how to poach an egg, how to make delicious brownies, to making the perfect pastry, and more. I think this is another great present for Christmas. Know someone who’s going to university next year? Sorted. Someone a big fan of cooking? Sorted. Is your partner always burning stuff in the kitchen? Sorted! I think this is a must-have for any kitchen, for generations to come.

And that’s the first four picks of food! I’m seriously obsessed with all of these books and want them all. Like I said, a cooking book makes the perfect Christmas present and all of them offer something different and special. I, for one, can’t wait to get these books and cook from them as everything is just beautiful. Tomorrow, four more picks of food and they are another fantastic selection!

Also, have you signed up to my newsletter? The first one is going out next month (not long to go now) and you can sign up here.

Found some inspiration there for your loved ones or yourself? If so, do let me know! I’d love to know! Don’t forget there’s a gift guide every day at 6pm and I’ll see you tomorrow for four more picks of food!

Thank you,

Corey.
